The Cork Potters and Ceramic Artists are delighted to bring our group exhibition “Meitheal” to the ASNA Gallery, Clonakilty, opening on Thursday the 31th of July and running till the 30st of August.
With 14 Ceramic Artists and Potters taking part, the exhibition promises to show a unique and varied selection of work. The title of our show, Meithael is an Irish term used to describe a group coming together to work on behalf of each other.

The Cork Potters and Ceramic Artists (formerly The Society of Cork Potters) is a non- profit organization, open to all ceramic artists or potters who live in Cork City or County
and who make at least part of their living by working with clay.

The aim of the Society is to provide a framework for Cork-based potters and ceramic artists, to facilitate the exchange of ideas and information, to further their development, to organise ceramic-specific networking events, workshops, exhibitions for the benefit of its members and other invited craftspeople.

The Society was founded by a group of potters and ceramic artists working in County Cork during the 1970′s, and was affiliated to the Crafts Council of Ireland in 1980.
Meetings were held on a regular basis to exchange ideas and information, and exhibitions of members’ work were organised. Well-known ceramic artists were invited to come and show their work to members and demonstrate techniques in workshop settings. Many of these events were thrown open to other potters throughout Ireland and the Society continued to meet regularly until about 1992. Since then, many young potters have set up in Cork and are working in comparative

isolation throughout the County. New and enthusiastic members continue to grow and
reflect the wide diversity of current creative ceramic activity.
